Described as a 'great packer' by his colleagues, Adam Zampa recently revealed to the BBC how alcohol, coffee and a microwave make up a crucial part of his travel kit during cricket tours.

Currently participating in the bilateral series against hosts England, Zampa is a vegan and as such, needs to carry his foods with him along with a microwave to cook them in.

"I've only brought about three T-shirts and two pairs of pants so I can fit in all my food and all my appliances," Zampa, a vegan by choice, told the BBC.

"People come into my hotel room and say 'you're a great packer'. I've got everything here. A microwave, all my coffee, all my elixirs - apple cider vinegar and my nutritional yeast. Packet mac and vegan cheese, miso soups, tea, all my favourite mugs and peanut butter. All that comes with me."

The 28-year-old's love for animals moved him to take up veganism, and as a result, he has had to improvise when on tour, especially now with the bio-bubble in place due to the global pandemic. As a result, Zampa's foods and related paraphernalia take up most of the space in his luggage.

"I've had to learn along the way. Here in the bubble, I've ordered some frozen vegan meals that I can heat up in the microwave. You find different ways around it."

Teamwork makes the drink work

Aside from food, Zampa also carries a couple of bottles of whisky, which he enjoys together with his teammates.

"We have a whisky club. At night, people will bring different bottles. Some like Japanese. I like Scottish Highlands. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have started to enjoy it and a few other guys are starting to dabble."

The other drink that Zampa enjoys is coffee. With the players mostly cooped up in hotel rooms due to the bubble, his room has been branded 'The Love Cafe', where the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Kane Richardson, Alex Carey, 'all good friends' says Zampa, show up to partake in the unique brews he concocts.

The spinner recently made headlines for replacing pacer and fellow Aussie Kane Richardson at the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad ahead of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) season on account of Richardson wanting to witness the birth of his first child.
