The 23rd edition the ICC under-19 World Cup is set to get underway in South Africa with 16 teams vying for the trophy. Split into four groups of four teams each, the teams are loaded with talents and have stacked up their squads with some of the best players in youth ODIs.

Here we take a look at three in-form batsmen and bowlers since the end of the last youth World Cup.

Most runs

Two Bangladesh batsmen dominate the run charts since the end of the last youth World Cup with 1000-plus runs at averages of 60.21 and 47.61 respectively. Towhid Hridoy is among the most talented under-19 batsman on show this World Cup. The Bangladesh batsman recently made a half-century followed by three centuries on the trot against the Sri Lankan youth side in late 2019.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy has been extraordinary too for Bangladesh in this time period with three centuries and five half-centuries to his name.

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has had a great time in youth ODIs and goes into the tournament as the third-highest run-scorer since the last World Cup with an average hovering close to the 60-mark. He made a tremendous entry in List A cricket for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy by knocking off a double hundred - the youngest to do so in List A cricket -in his maiden season where he finished as the fifth-highest run-scorer.
