South Africa and West Indies men’s cricket teams first clashed in ODI cricket in March 1992. The Windies have won two 50-over World Cups, while the Proteas are yet to lift an ODI World Cup so far.

West Indies won the inaugural ODI World Cup in 1975 and followed it up with another win in the 1979 edition of the tournament.

So far, South Africa and West Indies have competed in more than 60 ODIs with the former emerging on top more frequently than the latter.

The highest team total in ODI matches between South Africa and West Indies was made by the Proteas in January 2015. Powered by AB de Villiers’ 44-ball 149, South Africa made 439/2 against West Indies at Johannesburg. The Proteas won the match by 148 runs after the Windies managed 291/7.

Lowest team total

The lowest team total in ODIs featuring South Africa and West Indies was made by the latter in January 2004. Chasing a target of 264, the Windies were bundled out for just 54 as South Africa won the game by 209 runs.

Most runs

Jacques Kallis scored 1,666 runs in 40 matches at an average of 50.48 and strike rate of 77.70 in South Africa vs West Indies games. No other player has scored more than Kallis in this fixture. He made four centuries and 12 fifties while batting against West Indies in 50-over cricket. 

Most wickets

Former Proteas skipper Shaun Pollock is the player who has taken the most wickets in matches involving South Africa and West Indies. He took 44 wickets in 35 ODIs at this venue and boasts an economy of 3.56 and an average of 24.20.

Highest individual score

AB de Villiers’ unbeaten 162 off 66 balls against West Indies in the 2015 World Cup at Sydney  is the highest individual score by any batter in fixtures between the teams. He smashed 17 fours as well as eight sixes over the course of his innings and was adjudged Player of the Match after South Africa completed a 257-run win.

Best bowling figures

Imran Tahir is the bowler who recorded the best bowling figures in 50-over matches between these sides. After South Africa had set a difficult target of 344 for West Indies to chase in June 2016 at Basseterre, Imran Tahir dismantled the Windies team with a Player of the Match performance that saw him finish with figures of 7/45.

Highest partnership

Rilee Rossouw and Hashim Amla hold the record for the highest partnership in ODI matches between South Africa and West Indies. The duo recorded two 247-run stands against West Indies. Both players scored centuries during these matches in January 2015 as South Africa went on to complete convincing victories.
