The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium is the world’s fifth-largest cricket stadium located in the city of Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India. 

The Raipur cricket stadium is named after Veer Narayan Singh Binjhwar, a landlord from Sonakhan who spearheaded the 1857 war of Indian independence in Chhattisgarh.

Also known as Nava Raipur International Cricket Stadium, the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium has a seating capacity of 65,000 and is the third largest cricket stadium in India after Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium and Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Established in 2008, the Raipur cricket stadium has the longest boundaries in Asia with an average boundary size of 80 meters.

The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium staged its first One-Day International (ODI) match between hosts India and New Zealand in January 2023. Led by Rohit Sharma, India won the match by eight wickets.

Highest team total

The Indian cricket team holds the record for the highest team total at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in ODI cricket. During the second ODI of New Zealand’s tour of India in 2023, the hosts recorded 111/2 in their successful chase of Kiwis’ 108. Rohit Sharma (51) and Shubman Gill (40 not out) helped India chase down the required target in 20.1 overs. Earlier, India bundled out New Zealand for 108. 

Lowest team total

The New Zealand cricket team registered the lowest team total at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in ODI format. Put in to bat, the Tom Latham-led New Zealand team were bowled out for 108 in 34.3 overs in 2023. Glenn Phillips top-scored for the Kiwis with 36 off 52 balls. For India, pacer Mohammed Shami was the wrecker-in-chief with three wickets. India won the Raipur ODI by eight wickets.

Most runs

India cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has the most runs at this venue in ODI cricket. Chasing 109, the swashbuckling opening batter scored 51 runs off 50 balls against New Zealand in the only ODI played at this ground in January 2023. Rohit’s knock was laced with seven fours and two sixes. His impressive knock powered India to an eight-wicket win in Raipur. 

Most wickets

Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami has the most wickets at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in ODI cricket. The right-arm fast bowler bagged three wickets in the solitary ODI played at this venue. India’s Washington Sundar and Hardik Pandya share the second spot with two wickets each.

Highest individual score

Rohit Sharma holds the record for the highest individual score at this ground in the ODI format. The right-handed batter scored a 50-ball 51 during the second ODI of New Zealand’s tour of India in 2023. Rohit’s scintillating fifty helped the hosts chase down New Zealand’s 108 in 20.1 overs. India won the match by eight wickets to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. 

Best bowling figures

Mohammed Shami registered the best bowling figures at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in ODI cricket. Mohammed Shami recorded impressive figures of 3/18 to help India bundle out New Zealand for 108 in 34.3 overs. Shami took the wickets of New Zealand opener Finn Allen, Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell. India later chased down the target in 20.1 overs with eight wickets in hand.

Highest partnership

India’s Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill hold the record for the highest partnership at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in the ODI format. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill forged a match-winning 72-run stand for the opening wicket against New Zealand in 2023. While Rohit scored 51, Gill remained unbeaten on 40. India won the ODI by eight wickets and later clinched the three-match series 3-0.
