Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, also known as Khandheri Cricket Stadium is a cricket venue in Rajkot, India. It is the home ground of the Saurashtra team and the Indian cricket team.

This venue is Gujarat’s first solar-powered stadium and can has a capacity of 28,000 people.

Established in 2008, the cricket stadium hosted its first international game in 2013, when hosts India locked horns with England in an ODI which the Men in Blue lost by nine runs.

Most runs

Former India captain Virat Kohli holds the record for scoring the most runs at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in ODI cricket. The Delhi-born batter has amassed 170 runs in three innings at an impressive average of 56.66.

The chase master has smacked two ODI fifties at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, with his highest score being 76-ball 78 runs against Australia in 2020.  

Most wickets

South Africa pacer Morne Morkel has the record for the most ODI wickets at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium. The speedster scalped four wickets in an innings at an economy of 3.90. 

In 2015, Morkel returned with 4/39 against India, making it the best ODI figures at the venue. 

Highest individual score

South Africa opener Quinton de Kock holds the record for registering the highest individual score at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium. The southpaw smashed 103 off 118 balls during the third ODI of South Africa’s tour of India in 2015.

De Kock’s match-winning knock included 11 fours and a towering six. The Proteas won the game by 18 runs to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match ODI series. 

Best bowling figures

South Africa pacer Morne Morkel’s 4/39 against India is the best bowling figures recorded at this iconic venue in the ODI format. 

The lanky speedster picked up four wickets for 39 runs from his 10 overs in the 3rd ODI of South Africa’s tour of India in 2015. 

Morkel’s brilliant spell helped South Africa win the game by 18 runs as they successfully restricted India to take a 2-1 lead in a five-match series.

Highest team total

India rode on half-centuries from Shikhar Dhawan (96), Virat Kohli (78), and KL Rahul (80) to post a mammoth total of 340/6 against Australia at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in 2020. 

It is the highest team total in ODIs at this venue and helped the hosts win the second ODI by 36 runs to level the three-match ODI series 1-1.

Lowest team total

In the third ODI of South Africa’s tour of India in 2015, the Men in Blue were restricted to 252/6 by the Proteas. A match-winning four-fer from Morne Morkel reduced the visitors to a subpar total as India fell short of the 271-run target.

This is the lowest team total in ODIs at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium and South Africa went on to win the game by 18 runs to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

Highest partnership

England’s Alastair Cook and Ian Bell added 158 runs for the opening wicket against India in the first ODI of England’s tour of India in 2013. 

This remains only the third instance when a batting pair added 100 or more ODI runs together at the venue. England went on to post 325/4 and the visitors won the game by nine runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series.
