Ravichandran Ashwin is one of India’s premier spinners and while his achievements in Tests show the caliber of the bowler he is, it’s worth noting that he first rose to prominence after bursting onto the scene on the back of his performances in the Indian T20 League

Ashwin’s breakthrough season in the Indian T20 League came in 2010 when the tricky off-spinner picked 13 wickets in 12 matches, playing a pivotal role for Chennai in their maiden title-winning campaign. Consistent performances soon earned him a place in India’s international team.

Since then, he’s taken 139 wickets at an economy of 6.90 over the course of his decade-long Indian T20 League career and has been the downfall of many a batter during that time.

The upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will also mark the return of Ravichandran Ashwin in the blue jersey after more than four years. Ashwin’s last white ball game for India was against West Indies at Kingston, Jamaica back in July 2017.

The Tamil Nadu off-spinner will be hoping to make a contribution in the upcoming T20 World Cup to not just help India win their second T20 World Cup title but also put him in the reckoning for India’s white-ball teams more regularly.

After all, on his day, Ashwin is capable of outfoxing the best of batters as he’s demonstrated by constantly dismissing top-quality players over the years.
