The Indian T20 League has seen plenty of top performances with bat and ball over the years. While batters find themselves frequently on top, certain bowlers make their presence felt over the course of the season and are rewarded with the Purple Cap for most wickets taken during the campaign.

Dwayne Bravo (2015) and Harshal Patel (2021) are the only two bowlers to pick maximum wickets (32) in a single Indian T20 League season.

However, Bravo with 32 scalps in one edition of the Indian T20 League is the first bowler in the history of the tournament to win two Purple Caps for topping the wicket-taking charts in the 2013 and 2015 seasons.

Like Bravo, Bhuvneshwar Kumar also won the Purple Cap twice when he finished as the top wicket-taker in consecutive seasons in 2016 and 2017. He took 23 wickets in 2016 during Hyderabad’s title-winning campaign and followed it up with 26 scalps in the 2017 edition.

South Africa's Kagiso Rabada with 30 wickets in the UAE edition of the Indian T20 League is second on the all-time list for most wickets taken in a single edition of the competition.

Bowlers with most wickets in a single Indian T20 League season

Bangalore pacer Harshal Patel with 32 wickets already holds the record for most wickets in a single season by an Indian bowler, surpassing Jasprit Bumrah's tally of 28 wickets in 2020.

Operating mostly in the second half of the innings, he is the team’s designated death bowler and has worked wonders, including a brilliant hat-trick against defending champions Mumbai in 2021 edition of the tournament.

The previous record for most wickets for the Bangalore franchise was jointly held by Vinay Kumar (2013) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2015) when they notched 23 wickets each.
