The Indian cricket team currently holds the record for most wins in a T20 International chase.
Since playing their first T20 international under captain Virender Sehwag against South Africa at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on December 1, 2006, India have recorded 55 wins while chasing in the shortest format of the game.
Interestingly, India’s highest run chase in T20I came against Sri Lanka in Mohali in 2009.
Chasing a target of 207, India rode on Sehwag’s 64 off just 36 balls and Yuvraj Singh’s unbeaten 25-ball 60 to chase down the total in 19.1 overs. Sri Lanka had posted 206/7 in their 20 overs courtesy of captain Kumar Sangakkara’s 59 off just 31 balls.
India have played a total of 166 T20I matches so far, winning 105 while suffering 53 defeats. India have a win percentage of 66.14 in T20I format as of June 2022.
The Australian cricket team is second on the list for most wins in a T20I chase. The Aussies have registered 54 wins while chasing in T20I cricket.
Australia’s 245/5 against New Zealand is the third-highest run chase in T20I cricket. Electing to bat first, Martin Guptill’s 105 off just 54 balls and Colin Munro’s 33-ball 76 powered New Zealand to post a mammoth score of 243/6 in their allotted 20 overs in Auckland.
In reply, Australia rode on openers D'Arcy Short’s 76 off 44 balls and David Warner’s 24-ball 59 to chase down the total in just 18.5 overs.
Australia have won 85 of the 162 T20I matches that they have played so far. They have lost 71 T20Is. The Aussies have a win percentage of 54.4 in T20I cricket.
The Pakistan cricket team is third for the most wins in a T20I chase. They have registered 53 wins while chasing in T20I cricket.
Pakistan, arch-rivals India and Australia are the three nations to record more than 50 T20Is wins while chasing.
Pakistan have an impressive record in T20I format, winning 117 of the 190 matches that they have played so far. They have suffered 65 losses in the shortest format. Pakistan have a win percentage of 64.05 in T20I cricket.
The England cricket team and South Africa complete the top five list for most wins in T20I chases. While England have recorded 42 T20I wins while chasing, the South Africa cricket team has registered 37 wins while chasing in T20I format.
England have won 77 and lost 64 of the 148 T20Is that they have played so far. They have a win percentage of 54.54 in the shortest format.
On the other hand, South Africa have registered 87 wins and 62 losses in the 152 T20I matches that they have featured so far. South Africa have a win percentage of 58.33 in T20I cricket.
