The record for most whitewash wins in bilateral ODIs is currently held by the Pakistan cricket team, with 22 whitewash wins in 117 bilateral series.

Pakistan played their first ODI against New Zealand in 1973 and secured their maiden whitewash result (2-0) against England in the 1974 Prudential Trophy.

Out of their 22 whitewash wins, Pakistan have registered the most ODI whitewash victories against Zimbabwe and West Indies (six series wins each).

South Africa is the second team with the most whitewash wins in bilateral ODIs. The Proteas have registered 20 whitewashes in 87 bilateral ODI series, with their first success dating back to 1995 when they beat Zimbabwe 2-0 at Harare.

Interestingly, South Africa hold the record for the most whitewash wins against an opponent in bilateral ODIs, with seven wins in bilateral affairs involving Zimbabwe.

New Zealand is third on this list with 18 wins in 109 bilateral ODI series. The Blackcaps played their first bilateral series against England and lost 0-1 in the two-match Prudential Trophy in 1973.

Three years later, the Kiwis would secure their first whitewash ODI result against India. New Zealand, then captained by Glenn Turner, claimed a 2-0 sweep against India in 1976.

Bangladesh are the Kiwis’ favourite bilateral opponent in ODIs having claimed six series victories in nine bilateral affairs.

West Indies and Australia complete the top five list for most whitewash wins in bilateral ODIs.

The West Indies cricket team have played 112 bilateral ODI series so far and have registered 17 whitewashes, since their first bilateral affair against England in 1973. While that series ended 1-1, the Men in Maroon were adjudged winners because of a better scoring rate.

A mighty force in the early years of One Day International cricket, the Windies bagged their first whitewash in a bilateral ODI series in 1976. Clive Lloyd’s men outclassed a Tony Greig-led England team by a 3-0 margin.

By doing so, they became just the second visiting team after Pakistan (1974) to secure an ODI series whitewash on English soil.

Lastly, the Australian cricket team have 16 whitewash wins from 92 bilateral ODI series.

The Aussies, winners of the first-ever ODI match, claimed their first whitewash result (2-0) against Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand in 1974.

In terms of most whitewash wins against an opponent in bilateral ODIs, Australia have registered four whitewashes each against Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The Indian cricket team currently have 14 ODI whitewash wins in 117 bilateral series.
