Power-hitters: Batsmen with most sixes in Test cricket

While hitting sixes are a more common sight these days in modern cricket, maximums are still at a premium in Tests. But there are still those who managed to clear the boundary often in their careers.

Here, we have a look at those players with the most sixes in Tests.

Brendon McCullum - 107 sixes

The attacking New Zealand batsman and former skipper was one of the most attacking batsman of his time. Brendon McCullum believed in going after the bowlers even in Test cricket and played scintillating knocks over his career courtesy some exquisite power-hitting. He finished his Test career with 6,453 runs at an average of 38.64 and has hit the most sixes in Tests with 107 in 101 matches.

Adam Gilchrist - 100 sixes

Another name that instantly comes to mind when talking about power-hitting in Test cricket is Adam Gilchrist. The Australian southpaw had a special liking for taking the attack to spinners and often used the long handle to shift the pressure back on the bowlers. His unique batting style made him an anomaly during his active years and laid somewhat of a precedent for McCullum’s brand of batting. He finished his career with 5,570 runs at an average of 47.61 and hammered 100 sixes in 96 Tests. 

Chris Gayle - 98 sixes

Any discussion about sixes in cricket is incomplete without a mention of Chris Gayle. The Universe Boss, as he is fondly known, was never afraid of taking on bowlers irrespective of the situation in cricket’s longest format. He scored 7,215 runs at an average of 42.19 besides smashing 98 sixes in a career that spanned 103 Tests. Gayle is also the only player to hit the first ball of a Test for a six - a feat which he achieved versus Bangladesh in 2012.
