Most runs conceded in T20 World Cup: Know the bowlers

The recently concluded T20 World Cup 2021 saw quite a few records tumble where Australia defeated their Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand by eight wickets to lift their maiden T20 World Cup title.

The high-profile tournament has seen a number of bowlers being under the pump in tense situations and the batsman making merry on occasions more often than not.

Australia’s bowling spearhead Mitchell Starc conceded 60 runs off his allotted four overs in the T20 World Cup 2021 final against New Zealand as the onslaught helped the Kiwis post 172/4 in their 20 overs, the highest total in Men’s T20 World Cup final. 

A fine operator in the powerplay and particularly lethal at the death with his accurate yorkers, Starc had an off day with the ball in the high-octane final. 

Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson was particularly harsh on the left-arm pacer and smashed 22 runs off the third over of his spell that included four boundaries and a maximum.

Most runs conceded in T20 World Cup

Former Sri Lanka captain and all-rounder Sanath Jayasuriya tops this unwanted list by conceding the most number of runs (64) in his four-over spell, a dubious record that was achieved in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and stands till date.

Mashrafe Mortaza features next in the list having given away 63 runs off his four overs against subcontinent rivals Pakistan in the 2014 edition of the marquee T20 event. 

Lesser-known Kenyan cricketer Lameck Onyango also made it to the list when he was smacked for 61 runs in his stipulated 24 legal deliveries against Sri Lanka, who eventually went on to lift the T20 World Cup in 2014.  

The most famous member of the list is Englishman Stuart Broad, who was clobbered for six sixes by India’s Yuvraj Singh in the 2007 T20 World Cup at Durban and ended up conceding 60 runs in his quota of four overs.
