Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan currently holds the record for scoring the most runs in a calendar year in T20 internationals.
The star wicket-keeper batter amassed 1,326 runs in 29 matches in 2021 at an impressive average of 73.66 and a strike rate of 134.89. He smashed one hundred and hit 12 half-centuries in 2021.
Rizwan finished as the third-highest run-getter during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup held in the United Arab Emirates in 2021. The right-handed batter scored 281 runs in six matches at an average of 70.25 and a strike rate of 127.72. He hit three fifties in the ICC T20 marquee event.

Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam is second on this list for most runs in a calendar year in T20 internationals.
Rizwan’s opening batter partner Babar Azam accumulated 939 runs in 29 matches in 2021 at an average of 37.56 and a strike rate of 127.58. He registered one century and nine fifties during that time period.
Babar was the leading run-scorer in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, amassing 303 runs in six matches at an average of 60.60 and a strike rate of 126.25. He recorded four half-centuries in the T20 tournament.
Ireland cricketers Paul Sterling and Kevin O’Brien feature third and fourth respectively on this list.
While Paul Sterling scored 748 runs in 20 matches at a strike rate of 140.60 and an average of 41.55 in 2019, Kevin O’Brien accumulated 729 runs in 23 matches at a strike rate of 155.43 and an average of 31.69 in that same year.
Netherlands’ Max O’Dowd completes the top five list. The Netherlands opening batter scored 702 runs in 24 matches at an average of 29.25 and a strike rate of 120.82 in 2019.
Among Indians, Shikhar Dhawan has the record for the most runs in a calendar year in T20 internationals. Dhawan amassed 689 runs in 18 matches at a strike rate of 147.22 while also maintaining an average of 40.52 in 2018. He registered six fifties during 2018.
Meanwhile, former India cricket team captain Virat Kohli features eighth on the list. In 2016, the right-handed batter amassed 641 runs in just 15 matches at a staggering average of 106.83 and a strike rate of 140.26. He smashed seven fifties in 2016.
New Zealand’s Martin Guptill, Ben Cooper of the Netherlands and Australia’s Mitchell Marsh also appear in the top 10 list.
