The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Gahunje in the Pune district, is an international cricket venue with a seating capacity of 37,400.

Home to the Maharashtra cricket team, the stadium was built in 2012. Since then, the venue has hosted multiple international cricket matches. Over the years, the stadium has also been a venue for Indian T20 League matches.

The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium hosted its first ODI match between India and Australia in 2013. Four years later, the arena hosted its first Test match in 2017. 

The stadium will be host to five games of the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 which includes the India vs Bangladesh clash.

Highest team total 

South Africa holds the record for the highest team total at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in ODI cricket. The record was achieved by the Proteas against New Zealand in match 32 of World Cup 2023. After being asked to bat first, South Africa went on to post 357/4 powered by centuries from Rassie van der Dussen (133) and Quinton de Kock (114). In reply, New Zealand were bowled out for 167 as South Africa registered a 190-run win.

Lowest team total

The same match that saw South Africa post the highest total in ODIs at this venue also witnessed New Zealand make the lowest total on this ground. After South Africa had posted 357/4 courtesy of hundreds from Rassie van der Dussen (133) and Quinton de Kock (114) in match 32 of World Cup 2023, New Zealand only managed to score 167 all out as South Africa registered a big 190-run win.

Most runs

India’s batting stalwart, Virat Kohli holds the record for the most runs at this stadium in ODIs. The former India captain has scored 551 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 94.34. He’s notched up three centuries and three half-centuries with a highest score of 122 against England. The runs have come at an average of 78.71. India’s Shikhar Dhawan holds the second place, having scored 280 runs at this venue at a strike rate of 84.08.

Most wickets

The record for most wickets at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in ODI cricket belongs to India’s Jasprit Bumrah. He has bagged 10 wickets in four matches at an average of 19.30 with best figures of 4/45 at this arena. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also bagged 10 wickets on this ground from six games.

Highest individual score

South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen holds the record for the highest individual score in ODI cricket at this venue. He scored 124 against New Zealand in South Africa’s 190-run win in match 32 of World Cup 2023. Rassie van der Dussen’s 118-ball innings was laced with nine fours and five sixes.

Best bowling figures

Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi holds the record for the best bowling figures at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in ODI cricket. The speedster recorded figures of 4/34 against Sri Lanka in match 30 of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The left-arm pacer helped Afghanistan dismiss the Lankans for 241. Afghanistan's batters then chased down the target comfortably in 45.2 overs to register a seven-wicket win.

Highest partnership

Indian batting duo of Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav hold the record for the highest partnership at this venue in ODI cricket. The Indian pair stitched a partnership of 200 runs against England in 2017. Chasing England’s mammoth score of 350, Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav combined to rescue India from a precarious position and in the process, put on a match-winning partnership for the fifth wicket to set up India’s three-wicket win in the first ODI of a three-match series.
