Former Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli holds the record for the fastest 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. Kohli became the fastest player to reach 10,000 ODI runs and surpassed batting legend Sachin Tendulkar to reach the milestone in a record 213 matches (205 innings) as compared to Tendulkar’s 266 matches (259 innings).

Furthermore, while it took Tendulkar 11 years and 103 days, Kohli achieved the feat in just 10 years and 67 days. Kohli did so against West Indies in the second ODI of the Windies’ tour of India in 2018.

The former skipper scored his 37th 50-over ton in that ODI, hitting an unbeaten 157 as India posted 321/6 on board. The match was eventually drawn as West Indies matched India’s score by hitting a boundary on the last ball of the match.

There are as many as five Indian batters who feature in the list for fastest to 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. This includes Kohli, Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid. Ganguly, who sits third on the list, took 13 years and 204 days to score 10,000 ODI runs.

Sandwiched between Ganguly and Dhoni on the list are two more legends of the game in Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis. While the former Australia captain reached the milestone in his 272nd ODI (266 innings), Kallis made 10,000 ODI runs in 286 matches (272 innings).

The duo is followed by Dhoni (273 innings), Brain Lara (278 innings), Chris Gayle (288 innings), Dravid (287 innings) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (293 innings) who round up the top 10 list.
