Following the abandonment of the Afghanistan clash, New Zealand faced a rejuvenated Sri Lankan team. Batter Glenn Phillips smashed 104 runs off 64 balls as Trent Boult’s fiery spell of 4/13 ensured another comfortable victory for the Kane Williamson-led side.
Meanwhile, the England cricket team has won and lost one game apiece from their three matches. The previous encounter against the hosts was washed out due to rain.
England’s opening match of the T20 World Cup against Afghanistan saw Sam Curran become the first Englishman to bag a five-for haul in the shortest format of the game as the Jos Buttler-led side cruised to an easy five-wicket win.
The match-up against Ireland ended in a five-run defeat for England as rain played spoilsport.

In 22 T20Is, England have won on 13 occasions while New Zealand have claimed victory on eight instances. One match ended in no result.
England and New Zealand have faced each other once in every edition of the T20 World Cup since the inception of the competition, with the 2009 tournament being the only exception. The record in the T20 World Cups, however, is shared equally with three wins each for both teams.
The last two meetings in this tournament have been at the semi-final stage of the 2016 and 2021 editions, with the Englishmen winning in 2016 followed by a Kiwis victory in 2021. Interestingly, both sides eventually finished as runners-up in the respective finals.
Moreover, the last T20I bilateral series between them took place in November 2019 in New Zealand, where England won 3-2.
