England cricket team will lock horns with New Zealand in the first semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Wednesday, November 10.

The Eoin Morgan-led team was the most dominant side as they topped Group 1 of the Super 12s, winning four of their five matches in the tournament so far. Having beaten West Indies, Bangladesh, Australia and Sri Lanka, England lost to South Africa in their last Super 12 encounter.

Ahead of the much-anticipated semi-final, England continue to fret over the availability of their star opener Jason Roy, who suffered a calf injury during their 10-run defeat to the Proteas on Saturday. Roy injured himself while taking a quick run and later collapsed to the ground. In the absence of their regular opening batter, Jonny Bairstow could open the innings along with in-form Jos Buttler.

On the other hand, the New Zealand cricket team bounced back strongly after losing to Pakistan in their opening encounter of the T20 World Cup 2021. The Kiwis defeated favourites India, Scotland, Namibia and Afghanistan to seal their place in the semi-finals. With eight points from five matches, the Blackcaps finished second in Group 2 of the Super 12s, only behind Pakistan, who won all their five matches.

New Zealand have no major injury concerns ahead of the semi-final and can pick their best playing XI from the 15-member squad.

England vs New Zealand head-to-head record in T20 World Cups

In the England vs New Zealand head-to-head record in T20 World Cups, the former has won three of the five matches that they have played while the Blackcaps have managed two victories. The last time these two sides met at the T20 World Cup, England beat New Zealand by seven wickets in Delhi in 2016.

Furthermore, England hold a superior head-to-head record against New Zealand in cricket’s shortest format, winning 13 of the 21 matches that they have contested. The Kiwis have secured just seven wins while one match ended in no result.

While England will look to become double world champions after they beat New Zealand to claim the 50-over World Cup in 2019, Williamson’s side will eye revenge and look to secure a place in Sunday’s final.
