Joe Root’s England return to West Indies for a three-match Test series over a month after suffering a 2-3 series defeat in the shortest format against the Caribbeans.

The first Test will be played between March 8-13 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Kensington Oval Barbados will host the second Test between March 16-21 before the teams travel to the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada to play the final Test between March 24-29.

This will be England’s first assignment in Test cricket after their humiliating 0-4 defeat in the Ashes in January. With the problems behind them, England is touring with a new-look team, with opener Alex Lees and seamer Matthew Fisher getting their first national team call-ups.

Surprisingly enough, as many as eight players who featured in the Ashes have been rested for the West Indies Tests. Among them are James Anderson, who is the all-time leading wicket-taker in the longest format, followed by Stuart Broad. Also given time off from the tour of the Caribbean Islands are wicketkeeper Jos Buttler, Dom Bess, Sam Billings, Rory Burns, Haseeb Hameed, and Dawid Malan.

For West Indies, they have only named their squad for the first Test, giving pacer Anderson Phillip and opener John Campbell their maiden national team call-ups. Meanwhile, notable names such as Roston Chase, Rahkeem Cornwall, Shai Hope, Jeremy Solozano, and Jomel Warrican have been dropped.
