South East Stars begin title defence against Sunrisers in Charlotte Edwards Cup 2022 opener - get schedule

The Charlotte Edwards Cup 2022 begins on Saturday, May 14.

This will be the second edition of the competition, also known as the English Women's Regional Twenty20 Cup. The inaugural season was played in 2021.

The competition will run alongside the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, a 50-over domestic competition.

South East Stars, the defending champions of the Charlotte Edwards Cup, will begin their title defence against Sunrisers.

The participating teams in Charlotte Edwards Cup 2022 are Central Sparks, South East Stars, Sunrisers, Western Storm, Lightning, Northern Diamonds, Thunder and Southern Vipers.

The eight teams will include players from select counties.

• Central Sparks (representing Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire)
• Lightning (representing Loughborough University, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire)
• Northern Diamonds (representing Yorkshire, Durham and Northumberland)
• South East Stars (representing Surrey and Kent)
• Southern Vipers (representing Hampshire, Sussex, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Dorset, Isle of Wight and Oxfordshire)
• Sunrisers (representing Middlesex, Essex, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Huntingdonshire, Norfolk and Suffolk)
• Thunder (representing Lancashire, Cheshire and Cumbria)
• Western Storm (representing Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Cornwall, Devon, Wiltshire and Cricket Wales)

Charlotte Edwards Cup 2022 schedule, fixtures and India match times

All match times are in Indian Standard Time

The teams have been divided into two groups of four, with each side placed on the basis of how they finished in the 2021 edition. The participants will play the other three sides in their group twice, home and away.

Victory for any team earns them four points. A bonus point is awarded to a team should their run rate be 1.25 or greater than that of the opposition team. In the event of a tie for places on the standings, the following criteria is taken into consideration: highest run rate, most points, best bowling strike rate. 

The two group winners and the best second-place team across the two groups will advance to the Finals Day, to be played at the County Ground in Northampton on Saturday, June 11.

The group winner with the best record in the group stage advances directly to the final. The other group winner plays the best second-place team in a semi-final and the winner of the tie progresses to the Charlotte Edwards Cup 2022 final.
