Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee believes that Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is more aggressive compared to New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson.
"Yeah, they are different. Kane is a lot more conservative without being boring. He has got a great cricket brain. I spent a fair bit of time with Kane recently, " Lee said in an ICC media release.
Kohli and Williamson are set to face off when India and New Zealand play the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) final in Southampton from June 18-22.
Williamson has captained New Zealand in 36 Tests, winning 21 and losing nine. On the other hand, Kohli recently became India’s most successful captain ever in red-ball cricket after leading the country in 60 Tests. India have won 36 Tests and lost 14 under Kohli’s leadership.
Over the years, Williamson’s leadership qualities have been widely recognised and appreciated by several former cricketers. The Kiwi skipper has often led by example, making healthy contributions with his willow across formats.
"I admire his level of calmness. And that is he is not a boring captain. He is a conservative captain, but attacks when he needs to. And he attacks when he feels it is right,” the former Australian speedster added.
While the Indian squad has recently landed in England, New Zealand are currently busy playing England in the first of their two-Test match series at Lord’s.
Speaking ahead of the all-important WTC final, Lee mentioned that because of Kohli and Williamson’s contrasting styles, it will be interesting to see how they operate in the clash.
"At the end of the day, they are two amazing cricket brains. And that is what I respect. So yeah, it is going to be exciting to see who comes out on top,” the 45-year-old Lee concluded.
