The Big Bash League 2022-23 is Australia’s premier domestic T20 league that takes place typically in the Aussie summer every year.

The league was formed after the previous T20 competition, which had the six domestic teams competing in it, was scrapped by Cricket Australia. The BBL was introduced with eight new franchises based in six different cities in 2011.

Perth Scorchers entered BBL 2022-23 as the defending champions. They defeated Sydney Sixers in the final to clinch their fourth title and also denied the Sixers an elusive opportunity to bag three titles in a row.

While the Scorchers and the Sixers are the only teams to win multiple titles, Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes are the only teams yet to lay hands on the BBL trophy. Adelaide Strikers (2017-18), Sydney Thunder (2015-16), Melbourne Renegades (2018-19) and Brisbane Heat (2012-13) won the title once each.

The 12th edition of the tournament kick-started with a clash between 2015-16 champions Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars on December 13. Get the full BBL 2022-23 schedule.

The ongoing edition already witnessed a few record-breaking moments. Sydney Thunder getting bowled out for 15 runs against Adelaide Strikers to register the lowest T20 total of all time, to the Strikers completing the biggest BBL run chase ever against Perth Scorchers, the 2022-23 season has been action-packed.

The league stage of the tournament will culminate on January 25, 2023, and the playoffs will begin on January 27. The final of the 2022-23 edition will be played on February 4.
