Neighbours Afghanistan and Pakistan have both played plenty of T20 international cricket over the years albeit not much against each other.

The highest team total in T20Is involving Afghanistan and Pakistan was made by the latter in the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup in Dubai. Pakistan chased down a target set by Afghanistan by scoring 148/5 in 19 overs. Babar Azam was the top-scorer in the match after making 51 from 47 balls.

Lowest team total

Afghanistan’s 129/6 while batting first against Pakistan in the 2022 Asia Cup is the lowest total in T20 internationals for this particular fixture. The Men in Green went on to win the match with one wicket and four balls to spare as heroic efforts to defend the target from the Afghan bowlers went in vain.

Junaid Khan boasts the best bowling figures by any player in Pakistan versus Afghanistan T20I clashes. In the first 20-over encounter between these teams in 2013, Junaid Khan dismissed Najibullah Zadran, Samiullah Shinwari, and Dawlat Zadran to restrict Afghanistan to 137/8 and finish with figures of 3/24. Pakistan eventually won the game by six wickets.

Highest partnership

The 2021 T20 World Cup clash between these teams produced the highest partnership in Pakistan vs Afghanistan games. Reeling at 76/6 while batting first, Afghan duo Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib joined forces to stitch together an unbeaten 71-run stand with both batters finishing on 35 not out. Afghanistan posted 147/6 but couldn’t successfully defend the target.
