Five-time EFL Cup winners Chelsea will lock horns with second-tier outfit Middlesbrough in the first leg of the Carabao Cup 2023-24 semi-finals to be played at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough, England.

The Middlesbrough vs Chelsea EFL Cup 2023-24 match will start at 1:30 AM Indian Standard Time (IST) on Wednesday, January 10. Live streaming will be available in India.

Under manager Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea booked their place in the last four after beating last season’s finalists Newcastle United in a nail-biting penalty shootout in December.

Earlier, the Blues pipped Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Round of 16.

Chelsea will head into the Carabao Cup game after thrashing Preston North End FC 4-0 in the third round of the FA Cup 2023-24.

On the other hand, Middlesbrough secured a comprehensive 3-0 win over Port Vale in the ongoing EFL Cup quarter-finals.

However, the EFL Championship side will aim to bounce back after suffering a 0-1 defeat against Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round.

Ahead of the clash, Chelsea will miss the services of several of their stars including Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez, Lesley Ugochukwu, Trevoh Chalobah, Romeo Lavia, Benoit Badiashile and Carney Chukwuemeka.

For Middlesbrough, the likes of Samuel Silvera, Riley McGree, Seny Dieng,  Finn Azaz, Sam Greenwood, Tom Smith, Marcus Forss, Patrick McNair, Lewis O'Brien and Darragh Lenihan will be unavailable for selection.

Barbastro vs Barcelona in Copa del Rey 2023-24 Round of 32 clash - watch live streaming in India

Reigning La Liga champions FC Barcelona will take on fourth-tier club UD Barbastro in the Round of 32 clash of the Copa del Rey 2023-24 at the Estadio Municipal de Deportes in Barbastro, Spain.

The Barbastro vs Barcelona Copa del Rey match will start at 1:30 AM Indian Standard Time (IST) on Monday, January 8.

Barcelona have been the most successful team in Copa del Rey history with 31 titles. However, they were knocked out by arch-rivals Real Madrid (1-4) in a two-legged semi-finals last season.

Under manager Xavier Hernandez, Barcelona will head into the game after beating Las Palmas 2-1 in a closely-fought La Liga encounter.

With the win, Barcelona jumped to the third spot in the La Liga 2023-24 standings with 41 points from 19 games, seven points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Munir El Haddadi put Las Palmas in the lead, before Ferran Torres equalised for Barcelona in the second half.

Star midfielder Ilkay Gundogan later converted the decisive penalty in the 93rd minute to help Barcelona bag three crucial points from the game.

On the other hand, Barbastro are one of the two fourth-tier outfits to have qualified for the Round of 32 in the ongoing Copa del Rey.

Led by manager Dani Martinez, Barbastro defeated SD Ponferradina 1-0 in the first round and later pipped La Liga side Almeria 1-0 to enter the Round of 32.

Barbastro have been inconsistent in the Segunda Federacion and are currently placed ninth in the Group 2 standings with 21 points from 16 matches.

Ahead of the clash, Barcelona have several injury concerns as the likes of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Gavi, Marcos Alonso, Pedri and Joao Cancelo have been ruled out due to injuries.

Defender Inigo Martinez could make a return to the squad after recovering from his thigh injury.

Despite the injuries, Barcelona will be overwhelming favourites to beat Barbastro and move to the Round of 16.

Barbastro vs Barcelona head-to-head

This will be the first meeting between Barbastro and Barcelona in the Copa del Rey.

However, Barbastro played against Barcelona’s reserve team previously. One of the memorable clashes was when Pep Guardiola’s Barça B beat Barbastro in two legged semi-finals in the 2007-08 season to secure promotion to the old Division 2A at the Estadio Municipal de Deportes.

Arandina vs Real Madrid in Copa del Rey 2023-24 Round of 32 clash - watch live streaming in India

Defending champions Real Madrid will lock horns with fourth-tier outfit Arandina in the Round of 32 clash of the Copa del Rey 2023-24 at the Estadio El Montecillo in Aranda de Duero, Spain.

The Arandina vs Real Madrid Copa del Rey match will start at 2:00 AM Indian Standard Time (IST) on Sunday, January 7.

Real Madrid are the third most successful team in Copa del Rey history with 20 titles. Los Blancos are also the reigning champions of the annual Spanish tournament after beating Osasuna 2-1 in the 2022-23 final at the Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville, Spain.

Under the tutelage of manager Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid will head into the Copa del Rey encounter with a 1-0 win over Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabéu in their previous game in the La Liga 2023-24.

Star defender Antonio Rudiger netted the match-winning goal in the 78th minute of the game.

Having registered 15 wins, three draws and one defeat, Real Madrid are currently at the top of the La Liga 2023-24 standings with 48 points from 19 matches.

On the other hand, Arandina started their Copa del Rey 2023-24 campaign with a 1-0 victory against Real Murcia before they stunned La Liga club Cadiz 2-1 at home to enter the Round of 32.

While Arandina secured promotion from Tercera Federacion to Segunda Federacion last season, they have struggled in the ongoing season.

With just two wins in 16 matches, Arandina are placed at the bottom of the Group 1 standings with 10 points.

Meanwhile, the hosts will enter the clash with a 1-3 defeat at Marino de Luanco on December 17.

Real Madrid will miss the services of Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao and David Alaba, all of whom are ruled out due to injuries.

The likes of Ferland Mendy and Eduardo Camavinga are also doubtful for the upcoming clash.

However, Nacho is back from suspension and will be available for selection.

For Arandina, there are no major injury concerns ahead of the marquee clash.

FIFA World Cup 2026: Expansion, Hosts, Breakout Stars, Legends & More

The 2026 World Cup may still be on the distant horizon, but that has not stopped football enthusiasts from offering predictions ahead of the prestigious tournament.

The previous edition delivered a captivating spectacle as Argentina overcame a shocking start to navigate through a thrilling knockout phase before clinching their third World Cup title.

As the reigning champions set their sights on justifying their status as one of the bookmakers’ favourites to defend the title, formidable competitors from across the globe are poised to mount a serious challenge.

Qatar had the footballing world glued to their screens, and there's a feeling that the upcoming tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada will have a similar effect.

With significant changes, including an expanded team line-up, the 2026 World Cup is gearing up to be the largest and most captivating edition in the tournament's storied history.

We analyse some of the intriguing talking points ahead of the showpiece tournament.

Expansion to 48 Teams

One of the significant transformations for the 2026 World Cup is the tournament's expansion from 32 teams to 48 teams.

This expansion not only broadens the global stage for football but also offers more nations the opportunity to showcase their talent amidst the world's greatest teams.

The increased number of teams injects heightened excitement into the competition, allowing lesser-known nations a platform to leave their mark on the world football map.

There is also a surge in available qualification spots, enabling more nations to secure their position in the World Cup through a rigorous and competitive qualification process.

This expansion ensures that countries previously on the periphery now stand an enhanced chance of earning their place among the football elite.

Hosts Qualify Automatically

The hosts of the 2026 World Cup - Canada, Mexico and the United States - will all receive automatic berths for the tournament.

FIFA has historically given host nations the right to play in the World Cup without qualifying, but this is the first time they have set aside three spots.

Their participation is guaranteed to ramp interest in the World Cup in each of the respective nations, ensuring that there will be a vibrant atmosphere throughout the tournament.

Will Evan Ferguson be a breakout star at the tournament?

As anticipation builds for the 2026 World Cup, football fans are speculating about which potential breakout stars may grace the global stage with their exceptional skills and emerge as the tournament's revelations.

Given his remarkable performances for Brighton & Hove Albion, Evan Ferguson is one player to keep an eye on, assuming the Republic of Ireland can get their act together to qualify for a major tournament.

They failed to qualify for the 2024 European Championship in Germany, leaving a lot to be desired about their chances of landing a spot in the World Cup.

Ireland will be one of the outsiders with the bookmakers to lift the trophy, but the extended format does improve their chances of featuring in the tournament.

Punters on the best football betting sites in Ireland will be monitoring their progress with interest and will hope the appointment of a new manager gives them the chance to upset the odds.

Can Argentina retain their crown?

Argentina's journey in Qatar was a rollercoaster, marked by the shock defeat against Saudi Arabia in the curtain raiser to the jaw-dropping showdown with France in the final.

The pressure now mounts on the three-time champions, especially with their coveted crown up for grabs against formidable rivals, including 2022 finalists France.

Lionel Messi orchestrated Argentina's triumph with a spellbinding display, notching seven goals and three assists, scoring in each knockout round, including a memorable brace in the final.

Messi's stellar performance earned him the Golden Ball, making history as the first player to claim the award twice, having won it in Brazil in 2014.

Having finally laid hands on the prize that has eluded him throughout his illustrious career, question marks have been raised over Messi's involvement in the 2026 World Cup.

His performances in Qatar played a significant role in landing a historic eighth Ballon d'Or award, but the diminutive magician will be 38 at the upcoming tournament and is highly likely to miss out.

Argentina's chances of claiming back-to-back triumph on the global stage takes a significant hit without Messi in the picture, but it also opens the door for another unlikely hero to emerge.

Can Cristiano Ronaldo have one last hurrah?

Much like his iconic counterpart, Cristiano Ronaldo's involvement in the 2026 World Cup has also been called into question.

His performance in Qatar was nothing short of underwhelming, scoring just once in five appearances and failing to inspire Portugal past the quarter-finals.

The 38-year-old continues to perform at a high level, tearing up the Saudi Pro League with 32 goals in 39 appearances for Al-Nassr, and he doesn't look like hitting the brakes anytime soon.

The footballing legend would be 40 at the upcoming World Cup, but you wouldn't put it past him to spearhead Portugal's attack in search of one last hurrah on the grandest stage.
