Aston Villa makes late-window signings to spark revival

Sportsadda-2-SEP-Article-1

Aston Villa moved fast in the final days of the summer window, landing winger Jadon Sancho and midfielder Harvey Elliott on loan, and forward Evann Guessand on a deal. The squad, yet to net a league goal this season, needed fresh legs to spark their attack and add depth to midfield.

Club manager Unai Emery acted to strengthen key areas, hoping these new faces could lift Villa from its slow start. The signings show intent and urgency as the team seeks momentum in the Premier League.

Sancho joins Villa on his third loan in a row, after stints at Dortmund and Chelsea. He leaves Manchester United with Villa paying about 80% of his wages plus a loan fee. United had hoped to trade him this summer, with Roma and Dortmund also in the mix.

The England winger adds spark and skill on the flanks, filling the gaps left by loanees Asensio and Rashford and the exit of Leon Bailey. Emery now gains more options to push Villa forward.

Elliott arrives on loan with Villa set to buy next summer

Elliott joins Villa on a season-long loan from Liverpool, with a £35 million buy set for next summer. The England Under-21 star, once a Liverpool fan, shone at the European Under-21 Championship, netting five goals and earning Player of the Tournament. Villa gained a young, skilled midfielder ready to shape their play.

Limited time at Anfield last season pushed Elliott to seek regular play. The loan has a sell-on and buy-back clause, keeping Liverpool in future talks. Villa won the race for his signature, beating RB Leipzig. Before that, West Ham and Fulham had also shown interest. The deal gives Elliott a chance to grow and Villa a key midfield boost.

In early August, Villa signed Evann Guessand from Nice for around €35 million. The 24-year-old striker, once a French youth international, scored 22 goals and set up 16 in 120 Ligue 1 matches, including 12 last season. Guessand chose Villa over a big offer from Saudi side Neom SC, signing a five-year deal. He praised the club for its 'history, pride, passion'.

Martínez remains at Villa after loan move fails

Meanwhile, Villa goalkeeper Emi Martínez stays after a move fell through. He missed the 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace as Man United’s loan bid was denied, and Saudi and Turkish interest has yet to turn into offers. Marco Bizot, the new No. 2, started but gave away a first-half penalty. Martínez’s presence keeps experience in goal as the squad shifts.

Aston Villa have also signed defender Victor Lindelöf from Man United on a free transfer, agreeing on a two-year deal. The 31-year-old can play at centre-back or right-back, giving Emery more options in defence. Villa hopes his experience helps the team recover after a tough start in the Premier League.

Cambiaso's absence impacts Juventus ahead of Derby d’Italia

Sportsadda-27-AUG-Article-4

Juventus faces a tough challenge after Andrea Cambiaso received a two-match ban. He got a red card against Parma in the 83rd minute. The suspension sidelines him for two crucial games.

Cambiaso will not play in the upcoming match against Genoa and the crucial Derby d’Italia against Inter Milan. This is a big loss for Juventus, as Cambiaso is a key player in their lineup.

Coach Igor Tudor must decide who takes Cambiaso's place. Filip Kostic is a strong candidate as he fits well in the same position. Tudor may also use Weston McKennie, who has played as a wingback before. However, the team lacks depth, which makes this choice harder and more crucial.

As Juventus prepares for these matches, they must adapt quickly. The absence of Cambiaso puts pressure on the team to perform well. Fans will watch closely to see how the team copes without him and maintains its strong start to the season.

Amorim admits Man United not ready for Europe

Sportsadda-27-AUG-Article-1

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim admitted the team wasn't ready for the tough demands of European football this season. He said taking a break from these games could help the team grow in the long run.

United finished a low 15th in the Premier League last season, missing out on European football entirely. This left them as one of nine English clubs not playing in Europe.

Amorim, who has started slowly with just one point from two league games, said they 'need time to develop as a team' to play hard games in the Champions and Premier League. The manager also plans to rotate the squad heavily for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup game at League Two side Grimsby.

Several players have been linked with exits, including Jadon Sancho and Antony dos Santos, while the future of striker Rasmus Højlund remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is also looking to leave after being left out of Amorim’s 3-4-3 setup. This is despite making England’s Euro 2024 final squad last year.

The pre-season gave some hope with wins over West Ham and Bournemouth in the US. However, the team’s struggles in competitive matches show how big Amorim’s rebuilding job is.

Wolves block Newcastle’s £50m Larsen bid after Liverpool loss

Sportsadda-26-AUG-Article-3

Newcastle’s chase for a new front man hit a wall as Wolves turned down a £50m bid for Jørgen Strand Larsen. The rejected deal highlights the challenges the Magpies face in securing a top striker with the September transfer deadline approaching.

Wolves made Strand Larsen’s loan stay permanent for £23m last month after he scored 14 goals. Boss Vitor Pereira was clear: 'He is a very important player for us. I haven’t spoken with him about it. He is committed to the team. He likes to win, and he is a fighter.’

Newcastle need goals. Callum Wilson left last month when his contract expired, while two bids for Yoane Wissa were also turned down by Brentford. They also lost to champions Liverpool, with Anthony Gordon sent off. Alexander Isak, who has made his wish to join Liverpool clear, remains away from first-team training as Newcastle refuse to budge on their terms.

With failed bids for both Wissa and Strand Larsen, Newcastle face a race against time to bring in at least one striker before the transfer window closes.

Palace start Euro quest as Eze bids goodbye

Sportsadda_26_AUG_Article-1

Crystal Palace made history with a 1-0 win over Fredrikstad in the UEFA Europa Conference League play-off round, yet the night felt split. The win marked the club’s first step in Europe in 27 years, but fans also faced the loss of key man Eberechi Eze, who is set to join Arsenal.

At Selhurst Park, many wore shirts with 'Eze 10' and held signs of gratitude for the midfield star. Coach Oliver Glasner later said Eze would not play for Palace again. Still, joy broke out when Jean-Philippe Mateta struck a header in the second half, giving Palace their first goal in a European competition since 1998.

The club entered this run fresh from their FA Cup and Community Shield wins, which had first placed them in the Europa League. That slot was cut by UEFA due to club share rules, leaving Palace to fight in the lower tier.

Chairman Steve Parish noted that life must go on after Eze, with new signings due. Yet, more exits may come, as Marc Guéhi is linked with a move to Liverpool.

Leeds claim first win over Everton at EPL return

Sportsadda_20_AUG_Article-2

Leeds United returned to the English Premier League (EPL) and were up against Everton at Elland Road. Everton’s defence held firm for most of the match, keeping Leeds from finding the net until late on. Free transfer Lukas Nmecha scored in a controversial late penalty, winning the match for Leeds.

The game ends 1-0 in favour of Leeds United, putting them at number 7 in the 2025/26 EPL standings. It’s an exciting moment for the returning club after two seasons playing in the English Football League Championship.

‘Thank God I didn’t step in’, says Leeds boss Daniel Farke

Leeds manager Daniel Farke wasn’t confident in Nmecha at first. He looked hesitant early on and needed time to settle. When the referee called for a penalty over Everton captain James Tarkowski’s handball, Farke was about to tell Nmecha, ‘...it’s perhaps not the day to take a penalty’.

Fortunately, he allowed the free transfer to take his shot, and it led to Leeds’ victory. This gives the club a much-needed morale boost to start the season. Whether or not they can keep this momentum is yet to be seen, but it’s a win worth celebrating.

Kane and Díaz fire Bayern to Supercup win against Stuttgart

Sportsadda_18_AUG_Article-1

Bayern Munich secured the inaugural Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart. Harry Kane and summer signing Luis Díaz scored the goals, marking Bayern’s 11th Supercup win. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was named Man of the Match after making several crucial saves. The win came less than a week before the Bundesliga season starts.

Kane scored in the 18th minute after a mistake in defence. Díaz doubled the lead in the 77th minute with a header from a Serge Gnabry cross. He celebrated by honouring his late former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota. Stuttgart scored through Jamie Leweling in added time, but Bayern maintained control to secure the win.

Neuer made several key saves and praised his team’s good pre-season form. He also pointed out the strong teamwork as they head into the league. Off the field, Bayern improved their defence by signing Jonathan Tah.

Meanwhile, Croatian defender Josip Stanišić also signed a new deal with Bayern that runs until 2029, reportedly turning down AC Milan’s offer. He is expected to be a key option at left-back until Alphonso Davies returns from injury.

AS Roma launches £20m bid for Man Utd's Jadon Sancho

Sportsadda_15_AUG_Article-4

AS Roma made a £20 million offer to sign Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho. The Italian club aims to seal a deal before the transfer window closes on September 1, 2025.

Sancho, 25, joined United in 2021 for £73 million. Unfortunately, he struggled to find a consistent form on the field. Since then, he’d just made 83 appearances and scored 12 goals for the squad. He also spent the last 18 months on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea.

The winger has not been featured for any of United’s matches this season and was left out of the club’s summer tour.

Reports say Roma’s bid is for a permanent deal rather than another loan spell. Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, with United keen to reach an agreement. After all, they’ve already told the winger to find a new club before the window shuts.

If the deal goes through, it could offer Sancho a fresh start in Italy and a chance to rebuild his career.
