India at Tokyo 2020 Olympics Day 5: As it happened
Some of India's top medal contenders produced stunning performances on Day 5 of Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Wednesday, July 28.
While star shuttler PV Sindhu stormed into the round of 16 after defeating Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi 21-9, 21-16 to top Group J, archer Deepika Kumari sailed into the round of 16 after winning her round of 64 and round of 32 matches to progress to the pre-quarter-final in the women's individual event.
Meanwhile, boxer Pooja Rani defeated Ichrak Chaibof of Algeria 5-0 to enter the quarter-final of the women's middleweight category.
However, there were some disappointing performances as well as the Indian women's hockey team lost 1-4 to reigning Olympic gold medallists Great Britain.
Furthermore, archers Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav were knocked out of the men's individual recurve event.
