India at Tokyo 2020 Olympics Day 4: As it happened
India had another disappointing day at Tokyo 2020 Olympics as several of its medal prospects failed to live up to the expectations. On Day 4 of the Summer Games, Team India had a rather positive start as Indian shooting sensations Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker topped their mixed team air pistol qualification Stage 1. However, the duo finished seventh in Stage 2 as they failed to qualify for the medal events.
Indian paddler Sharath Kamal and shuttlers Saitwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also crashed out of their respective events. Furthermore, the Indian shooting contingent continued their dismal show as mixed team pairs of Divyansh/Elavenil and Anjum/Deepak failed to qualify for the finals of the rifle event.
Meanwhile, the Indian men's hockey team bounced back strongly as they defeated Spain 3-0 in Pool A match on Tuesday. With this win, the Men in Blue moved to the second spot in the Group A points table only behind the top-ranked Australian side.
On the other hand, pugilist Lovlina Borgohain stormed into the quarter-finals of the women's welterweight (64-69kg) boxing event as she defeated Nadine Apetz of Germany by split decision. The 23-year-old is one step away from securing a medal in the 69kg category.
