India at Tokyo 2020 Olympics Day 2: As it happened

The Indian contingent had an underwhelming third day at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, barring a few key performances.

While two of India’s biggest medal prospects, PV Sindhu and MC Mary Kom began their campaigns on a positive note, Sania Mirza's Olympic dream came to an abrupt end in the first round of women's tennis doubles.

On the other hand, the Indian men’s hockey team had a forgettable Pool A fixture against Australia, having succumbed to a 7-1 loss while G Sathiyan also saw his run in the men's table tennis singles event come to an end.

The only positive besides Sindhu and Mary Kom was Manika Batra, who staged a valiant fightback to stun Ukraine's Margaryta Pesotska in seven games.
