A day of many surprises awaited the Indian contingent on Day 12 of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Neeraj Chopra, one of the medal hopefuls for India, sealed a place in the finals of the javelin throw event after hurling the javelin to a distance of 86.65m on his very first throw in the qualification round.

Boxer Lovlina Borgohain became India's third medallist at Tokyo 2020 after she won bronze in the women's boxing semi-final.

Wrestler Ravi Kumar entered the final of the men's freestyle 57kg category to assure India its fourth medal at Tokyo 2020, while Deepak Punia will battle for bronze after losing his semi-final bout against USA's David Taylor.

Anshu Malik, however, crashed out after losing in the round of 16. Women golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar moved into the next round after being tied at second and 56th respectively.

The Indian women's hockey team's dream run came to an end after they suffered a 3-1 loss to Argentina in the semi-finals. They will now play Great Britain for the bronze medal.
