The Pro Kabaddi league (PKL) has decided to indefinitely postpone its eighth season due to the ongoing pandemic.

In a statement made by the PKL's official Twitter handle on the morning of Saturday, November 28, the league stated that in light of the ongoing circumstances and 'keeping in mind the official guidelines and health and safety of players in the context of an indoor contact sport', they have decided to postpone Season 8 of the PKL, adding that the season could get underway sometime in 2021, once it's 'safe to resume.'

The pandemic has also delayed the league's planned auction of the media rights for the next cycle, given that their five-year deal with Star Sports had come to an end last year.

Season 7 of the Pro Kabaddi League was held between July and October in 2019 with Bengal Warriors piping league MVP Naveen Kumar and his Dabang Delhi K.C. side in the final to win their maiden title.

The league was initially rumoured to return with Season 8 in mid-2020, however, it was delayed due to the pandemic.

This morning's announcement was the first update that league has provided in regards to Season 8 and it still remains unclear as to when the league will return in 2021.
