SAI boys are expected to be favourites in the ongoing 47th Junior National Kabaddi Championship after they produced another strong show in the tournament at Suryapet, Telangana on Tuesday.

After crushing Bihar on the opening day, SAI boys beat Rajasthan 62-27 on the second day. Meetu Mahnder managed a Super 10 with 13 raid points while Sushil Om bagged one with 11 points. Rahul Setpal, Sachin Suresh and Jaideep Kuldeep each recorded their second straight High 5.

SAI boys inflicted eight all outs in all to dominate the match.

But the biggest win of the day came with a 51-point margin. Maharashtra beat Chhattisgarh 74-23, in which a whopping 12 all outs were inflicted.

Sikkim, who are playing the junior kabaddi nationals for the first time, have been impressive so far across the two days. While they lost two of their three matches, the margins were narrow.

Sikkim lost 38-41 to Jammu & Kashmir and 46-51 to Goa. They, however, recorded their maiden win in the Junior National Kabaddi Championship with a 51-48 scoreline against Vidarbha.

A gritty show of comeback was put up by the Uttar Pradesh Boys team, who came back to beat hosts Telengana 54-23, after Tamil Nadu had beaten them 54-35 on the first day.

Most highlights of the day, however, came from the girls’ category where numerous clashes saw one-sided results.

Both Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh registered whopping 37-point victories against Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir, respectively. Chhaya VR was the star of the day as her 14 raid points helped Chhattisgarh outplay Jammu & Kashmir 48-11.

Not all outcomes were one-sided though, as the Girls’ category also saw a close encounter between Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand, which the former won 29-26

In other matches, while Goa defeated Manipur 37-24 in the opening game, Punjab hogged the limelight with their double victory over Vidarbha (39-23) and Kerala (54-14) on Day 2.

With the group stage matches expected to wrap up by Wednesday, the semi-finals and finals of the 47th Junior National Kabaddi Championship will be held on Thursday.
