One-time Indian Super League champions, Bengaluru FC are reportedly preparing a new contract for their talismanic captain Sunil Chhetri despite heavy interest from the fellow ISL teams, which includes FC Goa and ATK Mohun Bagan.

As per Times of India, Chhetri was informed by his agent Sonu Lamba that he was free to listen to offers from other suitors now that he had entered the final six months of his current contract. However, the Indian football national team captain has snubbed the opportunity, stating that Bengaluru is 'his home'.

It is said that there are as many as four teams vying to sign the Indian captain. FC Goa already offered a contract to Chhetri in January, but the country's top-scorer was quick to look the other way. The list of potential suitors has league leaders Mumbai City FC, ATK Mohun Bagan and SC East Bengal. Apparently, the latter wants Chhetri to finish his career where he started 20 years back.

Amidst all this, Lamba has confirmed that he is already in touch with the Bengaluru hierarchy over a new contract and there are possibilities that his fate will be decided in the coming days.

“Sunil’s contract is getting over (at the end of this season) but he said he can never play against the Bengaluru FC fans. In all likelihood, he will stay at the club,” said Lamba.

Chhetri signed for Bengaluru FC in 2013, the year when the club was formed. After spending two years with the club in the I-League, the striker moved to Mumbai City on loan for the 2016 edition of the ISL. He returned to Bengaluru FC for the 2015-16 ISL season and has been a mainstay at the club since.
