Former Australian cricketer Shane Warne believes Australia would eventually edge past India to clinch the four-match Test series that starts from December 17, Thursday, at the Adelaide Oval.

The legendary spinner has been a part of numerous India-Australia clashes and admits that Virat Kohli’s men were undoubtedly the better side to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2018.

“India deserved to win that series a couple of years ago because they were the better team,” Shane Warne told Sports Tak.

“Virat Kohli, probably the biggest superstar in cricket at the moment, said Test cricket is the most important format of the game,” Warne added.

India cricket team captain Virat Kohli will play his last match of 2020 in the day-night pink-ball Test match in Adelaide before he leaves for India on paternity leave and Warne believes his absence will be a huge blow for India.

“Who do I think will win? I think Australia will win in these home conditions. My head sort of says India, my heart says Australia.

“But I think with Virat Kohli playing only that first Test match, Australia might have a bit too much firepower. I will say 2-1 to Australia,” Warne said.

The Australian has been a regular in India owing to the annual Indian T20 League competition, which Shane Warne had won with Rajasthan in the inaugural edition. And Warne believes the competition has been quintessential in developing talents in India.

“India have now become one of the best sides in the world if not the best in the Test match arena. I think the IPL has helped,” Warne pointed out.

“All the international fast bowlers coming to play IPL, terrific young batsmen from India facing the quality international fast bowlers. India are producing lots of fast bowlers. I am thoroughly looking for this series,” he added.
