Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) national women’s selection committee has named a 26-member squad from which the national and ‘A’ teams will be selected for the white-ball series against West Indies to be held in Caribbean.

According to the announcement made on Monday, Pakistan’s leading ODI run-getter, Javeria Khan has been selected as captain. She has 208 caps to her name. The Pakistan women’s cricket team will play West Indies in three T20Is and five ODIs while the ‘A’ side will take on the same opposition in three ODIs and as many T20s.

The ‘A’ team will be captained by Rameen Shamim in the ODIs and wicket-keeper Sidra Nawaz will lead the ‘A’ side in three T20Is. A total of 26 players will be available for selection for 14 matches.

Pakistan national women’s selection committee chairperson Urooj Mumtaz in an official PCB release said: “This is a historic occasion in the history of Pakistan women’s cricket as for the first time the national side and the ‘A’ team are traveling together.

“The Caribbean tour presents a phenomenal opportunity to our core group of cricketers to showcase their performances and further cement places for the 2021-22 season, which promises to be an exciting one for women’s cricket.”

“These 26 players have been involved in all our high-performance camps over the past nine months and have put in the hard yards under the national coaching staff led by David Hemp. The group has prepared with high intensity and purpose. They remain focused and determined to put up winning performances,” he added.

The 26-player contingent alongwith the coaching staff and the team officials have arrived in Lahore and will depart for Antigua via London early morning on Wednesday, June 23.

The entire touring party will undergo the stipulated pre-departure Covid-19 tests by Monday afternoon. Once they reach Antigua, they will be tested twice in five days and will stay under room isolation.
