A new-look England cricket team will face Pakistan in a three-match ODI series starting July 8 at Cardiff. England named a revised 18-member squad after three players along with four members from the management tested positive for COVID-19.

All-rounder Ben Stokes returns to the limited-overs fold after recovering from an injury and will captain the side, which has nine uncapped players. Consistent performers in the domestic circuit have been rewarded with call-ups to represent the national team after a few national team regulars were put into isolation following a COVID-19 outbreak within camp.

The incoming players and support staff will follow all the testing protocols.

Managing Director of England Men's Cricket, Ashley Giles, said: "It's a great opportunity to play on the biggest stage, and for most of the players selected it's not necessarily something they would have been expecting 24 hours ago.

"It's an exciting group of players, with some young talent and some players who have impressed at domestic level over a long period of time.”

Pakistan, on the other hand, will be led by Babar Azam and supported by the likes of Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Shoaib Maqsood, and Haris Sohail. The bowling unit looks fairly settled with Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Hasnain, and Haris Rauf in its ranks. Most of the players from the touring party have arrived after playing the remainder of the Pakistan Super League in the UAE.
