A player and several members of the support staff and social media team of Indian T20 League squad Chennai have tested positive for the global virus, as per reports.

Having touched down in Dubai on August 21, the team members were serving out their mandatory six-day quarantine period during which they were tested on Days 1, 3 and 5, and were about to commence their training from Friday, August 28.

However, one fast-bowler and 12 members of the support staff and social media team have tested positive for the global virus, leading to the team's quarantine period getting extended and their training delayed to September 1 while a few of the other teams have already begun their training.

The lone player who tested positive had done so on Days 1 and 3 of the mandated tests. He and the rest of the infected staff will now be kept in isolation for two weeks and must return two negative PCR test reports carried out at a minimum of 24-hour intervals before being allowed back into the bio-secure bubble, while the rest of the squad has gone into quarantine at their hotel.

Prior to their arrival in UAE, Chennai had conducted a five-day training camp in Chennai under bio-secure conditions after obtaining permission from the Tamil Nadu government, and some reports suggest that was possibly where the infection occurred.
