Sunderland assesses the chance of signing Leicester’s Fatawu

Sunderland is looking at a possible move for Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu. The 21-year-old Ghanaian is valued at around £30m and is seen as one of Leicester’s top players. Sunderland has held early talks but hasn't made a bid yet, as the price and deal could be tough to manage.
The Black Cats have already spent heavily this summer, with their transfer total reaching £141.5m, almost breaking Nottingham Forest’s record of £142m for a promoted club in 2022.
Their new arrivals include:
- Defender Nordi Mukiele from PSG
- Midfielder Granit Xhaka from Arsenal
- Winger Simon Adingra from Brighton
- Midfielder Habib Diarra from Strasbourg.
Fatawu joined Leicester on loan from Sporting Lisbon. He played a key role in winning their 2024 Championship title. The team later signed him permanently, but he missed most of the 2024–25 season with a serious knee injury.
