Scotland pair penalised by ICC for breaching Code of Conduct
Recent events from the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match led to Scotland’s wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Cross and spinner Mark Watt being penalised by the ICC for their behaviour.
During the match against the Netherlands, they broke Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, saying ‘showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match,’ in which they did.
It happened when Watt showed he was unhappy by throwing his cap after the umpire said no to an appeal. Cross was given out LBW but stayed on the field for a while and held up his bat to show he disagreed.
Both players admitted they were wrong and accepted the punishment, so there was no need for a formal meeting. The duo will be fined 10 per cent of their match fee, plus a demerit point for each one on their disciplinary records.
