The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) named Litton Das as the new captain of their national T20 squad. He is set to lead the team until the 2026 T20 World Cup. Das took over Najmul Hossain Shanto’s former position after he stepped down earlier this year.

All-rounder Mahedi Hasan has been picked as the squad’s vice-captain to help Das lead their matches. Both players will start their new roles in Bangladesh’s upcoming T20Is series against the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan.

Das as a leader

Das is no stranger to leadership. In December 2024, he led Bangladesh to a 3-0 T20I win over the West Indies. He’s also led the team in one Test match, seven ODIs, and four T20Is, but this is his first official captaincy in any format.

Despite a dip in recent white-ball form after he was ruled out of PSL 2025, BCB trusts him to guide the squad well. ‘For Litton, experience has been an important factor…If he can organise his game, he'll be an asset to the team,’ BCB Chair Najmul Abedin shared.

The squad for their upcoming series is packed with top-notch players: Tanvir Islam, Shoriful Islam, and Towhid Hridoy.
