Ygam launches new programme to help the esports and gaming industry

Ygam, a UK-based safeguarding charity, has announced the launch of its new programme that aims to protect young people in gaming and the esports industry. The charity aims to educate and support people closely involved in the field.
The Ygam initiative hopes to ‘create a safer, more supportive experience for young people’. The programme will also cover other related topics, such as career choices, advertising, microtransactions, and many more.
Sacha Kent, Programme Lead for Gaming and Esports at Ygam, stated, ‘It’s vital that we recognise the central role gaming plays in the digital lives that children lead today. This new programme marks an important step in helping young people enjoy gaming safely, with the knowledge and tools to better understand risks and harms.’
Before the public launch, they conducted a trial run at the Sheffield United Community Foundation and Sheffield Hallam University’s esports students. Since the programme received lots of good comments from the staff and the students, they decided to push through.
The group managing the gaming and esports programme will host open sessions during April and May.
Besides Ygam, other esports teams and personalities like Fnatic and Guild Esports also push for a safer gaming industry for young people.
